Terms of Service

Terms governing the use of LifeSignal.

Last updated: 9 June 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the LifeSignal service, including our website, emergency information profiles, QR codes, and related features (collectively, the “Service”), provided by LifeSignal Systems (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (“LifeSignal”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

LifeSignal allows users to create personal emergency information profiles. Each profile is associated with a unique QR code that can be placed on personal items such as a phone case, bag, bicycle, or wallet.

When the QR code is scanned by another person — such as a bystander, family member, or first responder — the scanner is shown the information the user has chosen to share, and may be able to trigger notifications to the user's designated emergency contacts via WhatsApp.

The Service is powered by QR codes and WhatsApp and is designed for use in South Africa.

3. User Responsibilities

By using LifeSignal, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information. You are responsible for ensuring that the information in your emergency profile is accurate, complete, and up to date. Inaccurate information may reduce the usefulness of the Service in an emergency.
  • Keep your information current. You should review and update your profile regularly, particularly when your medical information, medications, or emergency contacts change.
  • Maintain profile security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your profile.
  • Obtain consent. You are responsible for ensuring that any third parties whose information you include in your profile (such as emergency contacts) have given appropriate consent.
  • Use the Service lawfully. You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in any way that violates these Terms.

4. Information Accuracy

Users are responsible for ensuring that the information stored in their LifeSignal profile remains accurate and up to date. Emergency contacts, medications, allergies, and other important details should be reviewed periodically.

LifeSignal does not verify the accuracy of information entered into a profile. Outdated or incorrect information may reduce the effectiveness of the Service in an emergency.

5. Emergency Use Disclaimer

LifeSignal is intended to assist with access to emergency information in situations where the user is unable to communicate for themselves. LifeSignal cannot guarantee that a QR code will be scanned, that emergency contacts will be reachable, or that emergency responders will act on information presented through the Service.

The Service depends on a number of factors outside of our control, including network connectivity, device availability, WhatsApp service availability, and the actions of third parties. We cannot guarantee delivery of notifications or any particular outcome during an emergency situation.

LifeSignal is intended to supplement — not replace — other emergency preparedness measures, including wearing medical alert jewellery, carrying identification, and informing family and friends of your routines.

6. No Medical Advice

LifeSignal is not a medical provider and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The information displayed through a LifeSignal QR code scan is provided solely by you, the user. LifeSignal does not verify, validate, or take responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of any medical or personal information you include in your profile.

Nothing in the LifeSignal Service constitutes medical advice. Always seek professional medical advice for health-related decisions.

7. Service Availability

The LifeSignal Service is provided on a best-effort basis. We aim to maintain a reliable and available service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

The Service is currently in pre-launch development. Features, functionality, and availability may change as the service evolves. We will communicate significant changes to registered users where reasonably practicable.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LifeSignal Systems (Pty) Ltd will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from the use of, inability to use, or reliance upon the Service.

This includes, without limitation, any failure of the Service to deliver notifications, any inaccuracy in information displayed through a QR code scan, or any outcome during an emergency situation.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

9. Changes to the Service

LifeSignal is currently under active development. Features, functionality, pricing, integrations, and availability may change as the service evolves.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes in advance.

We may also update these Terms from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects when the Terms were last revised. Continued use of the Service after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
